Two posters presented by MAICh at the 13th Panhellenic Conference of the Hellenic Botanical Society
The 13th Panhellenic Conference of the Hellenic Botanical Society, entitled 'The green of hope: Botany today- theory and practice', was held at the Aristotle University Research Dissemination Centre at Thessaloniki (Greece) from 3 to 6 October 2013. More than a hundred people from all over Greece participated. The general topics of the Conference included: Plant Cytology - Morphology – Anatomy, Molecular Biology-Bioinformatics, Physiology - Biochemistry - biologically active compounds of plants, Systematics - Evolution – Phytogeography, Ecology - Flora – Vegetation, Plant Biology and Education – Awareness, Recording - Management - Valorization of plant diversity
The Mediterranean Plant Conservation Unit of MAICh presented two posters linked with the project “Ensuring the survival of endangered plants in the Mediterranean".
One poster entitled ‘Conservation of endangered native plant species of the Mediterranean islands – the case of Crete’ (Fournaraki C., Markaki E., Kokkinaki A., Gotsiou P.) presented the goals, activities, partners of the project and the particular outcomes of the project in Crete during the first two years of implementation.
A second poster presented with the title ‘Investigation of the gradual release from primary, physiological seed dormancy during the natural after-ripening in the coastal dunes keystone species Triplachne nitens, in Falassarna, Chania (Crete Island)’ (Mavroeidi L., Fournaraki C. , Thanos C. A.), was based on the preliminary results of the research done for the M.Sc. thesis of Ms. Mavroidi Lida at MAICH, supported by the project in the framework of ‘Training activities’.
